The Polish Fight for Freedom
On this day, 83 years ago, a dark cloud descended on Poland. On September 1, 1939, the German hordes invaded our country from the West. Seventeen days later, the Russians completed the job, and marched from the East. Once again, Poland disappeared from the maps of Europe.
But, as we say each time singing our national anthem, Poland will never perish as long as the Poles are alive. So we fought. We fought on every scrap of soil where people fought for freedom. We fought the Germans in the West and in the East. We fought them in Tobruk, in Africa. We fought them at Monte Cassino, in Italy. Our pilots were the best, if not the craziest, in the battle for Britain. And we fought them in the Warsaw Uprising.
We fought the German plague until 1945. We thought we were getting our own country back.
And that was the price we paid.
But this dramatic animation didn’t present the full story. Here’s the real burden to Poland.
The cost of our independence was horrific.
But we didn’t get the country we wanted. The black German plague was replaced by the red Russian.
So we fought again. Until 1991, when we finally got the government we wanted.
Freedom is not free.

So poignant.
Wow! this puts into perspective the cost of freedom. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Poland is an example for the rest of the world when it comes to perseverance and dedication to the cause for freedom.
